Firstly, we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to our GoFundMe, shared our appeal, or given their time and expertise. The support from our community has been truly overwhelming, and we are incredibly grateful - thank you all so much.
Following a professional drone inspection, we now believe that the solar panels are undamaged. The inspection identified two areas of storm damage: the north-east section of the roof (which many of you will have already seen) and a second area of minor damage on the north-west side.
As a result of this drone footage and ongoing inspections, we now have a much clearer picture of the repair work required. Our most accurate estimates currently put the cost of roof repairs, damaged doors, and repairs to the sports hall flooring at approximately £12,000.
If we are fortunate enough to meet, or exceed our fundraising target, any additional funds raised will be used to support further essential repairs to the building or put towards our long-term goal of a full roof replacement.
Unfortunately, with each day that passes, more rain continues to enter the sports hall. We are doing everything possible to limit further damage, including placing mats, using buckets to collect water, and carrying out daily checks. A massive thank you goes to our amazing team of volunteers, who regularly come in to monitor the situation and clean up where needed.
At present, one of our most urgent priorities is the safe removal of peeled-back roof panels, which pose a health and safety risk. Once these are removed, and subject to safety checks, we may be able to partially reopen the gym while we wait for the full roof repairs to be completed.
Roof repair works are currently scheduled to begin on 26th January, with an estimated duration of 7–10 days. We are actively trying to secure help to remove the damaged panels as soon as possible and will provide an update once this has been resolved.
If you are a professional roofer, electrician, plumber, or trades-person, we would still absolutely love to hear from you. We are keen to identify and address any additional, less visible damage caused by the storm.
In addition to the roof damage, the storm also caused significant flooding around several external doors and windows, which now require further investigation and potential replacement. These areas will be assessed alongside the roof works to ensure the building is made safe and weather-resilient.
Throughout this process, our priority remains the safety of our users, neighbouring school and nursery, volunteers, and contractors.
Our long-term mission remains unchanged: to work towards a full roof replacement, ensuring the sports hall is protected against many more Cornish storms to come.
Thank you once again for your continued support - it truly means the world to us and our community.
